2009 Honda City officially unveiled in Thailand!
Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has started selling the all-new Honda City in Thailand today. It will be sold in Thailand for between 524,000 to 694,000 Thai baht. We don’t have much details on the wheelbase and some other details yet.
The new Honda City is powered by solely by a 1.5 liter i-VTEC engine mated to either a 5-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual It is 4,395mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,470mm tall, so it is slightly longer (+5mm), slightly wider (+5mm) but not as tall (-25mm) as the previous model. Making it wider and not as high reduces the whole hatchback with a boot tagged on look that the City it replaces had.
It’s quite an attractive car and the lines flow alot smoother than the model it replaces. I hope that for those who don’t fancy the grille at the front all that much (as expressed in some previous posts), there will be a replacement Modulo grille that they can opt for. This was an option that Accord owners who preferred not having an “empty” grille - they could opt for a Modulo grille that had a little bar running through it.
UPDATE: More photos including high resolution photos of the new Honda City have been added after the jump. The new City is sold in Thailand in three variants: S, V and SV. The S and V variants come with a beige interior while the top of the line SV model comes with a dark interior and all 3 variants also come with different alloy wheel designs.
Six colours are available - Habanero Red Pearl, Deep Lapis Blue Metallic, Alabaster Metallic, Polished Metal Metallic and Bold Beige Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl. Sadly white is not available but maybe it will be in Malaysia if Honda Malaysia deems it as a potentially popular colour, which I think it would.
More details to be updated soon, for the moment please have a look at a collection of photos of the new City after the jump.

2009 Honda City in September - Details
Thailand is due to see the 2009 Honda City by the middle of next month! Honda will unveil the 2009 City as early as mid-September. The car will be based on the new Jazz platform, in the same way the current City shares the previous generation Jazz platform.
Model line up
The Thai City will share the engine and transmissions from the Jazz, the engine being the i-VTEC 120hp unit, while the transmission options will range from the 5-speed manual on the base S model, to the 5-speed automatic transmission complete with steering-wheel paddle shift on the top spec SV. The vast majority will be sold with the standard 5-speed auto.
The base model S and mid-range V spec will be available with a beige interior, while the top-spec SV model will be set apart with black trim.
The V will come in two versions, the V AT, and the V AT(SRS), with the SRS version being the first model that safety-conscious buyers will be able to consider, as the first that comes with dual airbags. The SV has airbags as standard.
The City will have a new "Advanced Audio" system with 4 speakers, but only on the V and SV models. The SV will also have fog lights, indicator lights on the wing mirrors, paddle shift manual mode automatic transmission, etc.
Pricing
The new 2009 City will be priced just below the Jazz. This should be easier for Honda to achieve now that the Jazz has gone up by THB 10,000 across the range. Although pricing hasn't been confirmed yet, we can expect it to be in the THB 520,000 to THB 660,000 range. The Jazz is currently THB 560,000 to THB 705,000! The outgoing City is priced from THB 484,000 to THB 645,000, but the new model will drop the i-DSI engine, and pricing will start well over THB 500,000.
No surprises in any of these details. The small sedan market is pretty predictable these days. The surprise will probably come from the styling of the new City.
The previous model was very awkward looking, and basically it was just a Jazz with a boot. Spy images of the new City would suggest that Honda is making the City much more of an individual, separating the design from the Jazz this time around.

2009 Honda City - First Images
The Indian market version of the highly respected automotive publication from UK, AutoCar, has released the first exclusive images of the new Honda City. This is probably the most important car launch of the year for ASEAN region markets, in terms of volume. Credits to autoincar for the scans below.
Sources cited by AutoCar indicates that global launch will be on November 2008, so expect launch in other countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand to follow suit within the next few months after that.
The current generation City. Image courtesy of Honda Malaysia
Unlike previous generation City which is built mainly with input from Thailand, the next City is developed with a lot of emphasis on the growing Indian small passenger car segment (on top of Thailand's market requirements) that is currently dominated by Maruti-Suzuki. Earlier, there have been spyshots of pre-production development units being driven around cities of India but I hesitated to post it up as I wasn't too convinced that it was the real deal. But if AutoCar publishes it, rest assured that it is the real deal.
New Honda City i-VTEC fully undisguised exterior and interior revealed!
It’s confirmed - the car we’ve been seeing in China and India is indeed the new Honda City. Reader xstan pointed out this flickr page with photos of the new Honda City - fully uncovered including photos of the interior!
It’s not known at the moment which country these photos come from. As expected, the interior is no longer based on the one in the Honda Jazz but instead uses a design that is perhaps cheaper to cast and manufacture.
The front is definitely inspired by the likes of the European Honda Civic and the Honda FCX Clarity. The headlamps feature reflector lense instead of the more expensive projector type, which is expected at this price range.
This new alloy wheel design has been seen on the previous rendering. It may differ from country to country. This shot of the rear wheel shows the use of disc brakes on the rear.
Another shot of the grille, headlamps and the 4 cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine in the background
A light interior. Some markets may get a dark interior, hopefully. Our current City i-DSI and VTEC come with either a dark interior for the VTEC or a light interior for the i-DSI.
The 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine is expected to be the 120 PS 1.5 liter unit from the newly launched Jazz.
A clean and simple interior featuring integrated audio and the new design Honda steering wheel.
The meter illumination at night. Notice the paddle shifts behind the steering spokes.
